If You Focus on God, Your Praise will Defeat Your Panic

A Life of Passionate Praise

In a world where we are often overwhelmed by anxiety and fear, cultivating a life of passionate praise is more important than ever. The anatomy of a praise break—much like that of a panic attack—reveals the profound impact that our emotions and spiritual lives can have on our physical being. But where panic attacks pull us into darkness, praise breaks lift us into the light of God’s presence.

The Importance of Daily Praise

The comparison between panic attacks and praise breaks serves as a reminder of the power of our emotional and spiritual lives. Just as panic attacks can disrupt our lives, a praise break can transform them. However, while panic attacks are often unwanted and unanticipated, praise breaks can be cultivated through a daily habit of sincere worship, praise and total surrender.

Paul and Silas praised
Acts 16:25 And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.
Just as panic attacks can disrupt our lives, a praise break can transform them.

A panic attack can be a terrifying experience, marked by rapid heart rate, sweating, shortness of breath, and a sense of impending doom. These physical reactions are the body’s way of responding to perceived danger, even if that danger is not immediately present. In contrast, a praise break triggers a different set of physical responses—raised hands, tears of joy, dancing, shouting, and sometimes even speaking in tongues. Both are intense emotional experiences, but where a panic attack is driven by fear, a praise break is fueled by overwhelming love, gratitude, and reverence for God.

Making worship a daily priority—whether through prayer, reading scripture, singing, or meditating on God’s goodness—creates an environment where praise breaks can naturally occur. This kind of worship isn’t just about going through the motions; it’s about nurturing a deep, passionate love for God, much like that seen in the book of Psalms.

When our hearts are filled with love for God, praise becomes a natural, joyful response, not just in church services but in every aspect of our lives.
