In the movie “Wizard of Oz”, Scarecrow asks Tin Man if there will be any wild animals who eat straw along the path of the yellow brick road. Tin man informs scarecrow that there may be mostly lions, tigers and bears as they make their way
through a dark forest. The three then begin to chant the famous line “lions and tigers and bears, oh my,” right before the cowardly lion makes his initial appearance into the movie.
This depiction can be used as a reminder of our foundational scripture.
"When peer pressure, depression, and ignorance forces our loved ones into abusing pharmaceutical extractions, we must show them how to escape the jaws of death, just as Daniel did in the loins den."
The writer, Peter, says, “be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour” (1 Peter 5:8). We understand we may not physically see the devil transform himself into a lion, but we can feel as though the demonic forces we have to face are ravishing us as a lion does his prey. Peter warns us to be sober, that is to stay focused with a clear mind. Apostle Paul writes to us in Galatians 5:16 and tells us to walk in the spirit to avoid fulfilling the lust of the flesh.
Life can get so hard that it feels like we are witnessing a wild circus with no one there to restrict or tame the animals. We must remember, greater is he that is in us than he that is in the world (1 John 4:4). The lust of the flesh can lead us into sins such as chemical and behavioral addictions. Some see no harm in gambling at the casino while enjoying their favorite drinks. Before they know it, the roaring lion of over confidence that alcohol brings causes them to lose their entire 401-k in one night. When peer pressure, depression, and ignorance forces our loved ones into abusing pharmaceutical extractions, we must show them how to escape the jaws of death, just as Daniel did in the loins den. Prayer, fasting, and supplication allows us to demonstrate our faith and trust in God. He gives us the power to slay the lions we meet throughout the course of our lives.
