When the so-called wise use unfortunate and tragic events to discourage you from trusting God, it is because they want you to lean on their understanding of your life and how they think it ought to be lived. Unbelievers have no idea that we who are citizens of the kingdom of heaven take instruction from God, the most intelligent being whose word alone established the foundations of the Earth that we live in and enjoy today."
The very breath they use to mock Him actually came from Him. "They have thought out what they believe; their theology is made out of their own substance, as spiders spin their webs out of their own bowels" Charles Spurgeon.
Everyone wants a savior, but not nearly as many people want a king. The savior is welcomed because he cleans up the mess we make of our lives and turns it into something he can use for his glory.
A king is someone we submit to. Not everyone wants to see God in this way. Instead of him saving us, we are now putting the focus back on him when we call him our king. Subjecting ourselves to his every command and always thinking of ways we can make him happy is what real children of God love to do when they call him their king. In the kingdom of heaven, servants take orders from their authority figure, searching the scripture for instruction, definition, meaning, and clarification to puzzling issues.
" It is not what I think; it is not what some greater man may think; it is not what may be the consensus of all the enlightened minds of the period; the decision lies with what the Lord has spoken.
"Our faith stands not in the wisdom of man, but in the power of God. What is taught in Holy Scripture is sure truth to us, and every other statement must bow to it." -Charles Spurgeon.
An overly ambitious child eager to learn to tie their own shoe may refuse help after they have gained a little confidence during the learning process. To be honest, confidence is an attractive characteristic and beneficial feature to have. No sane person would put their trust in someone who lacks it.
After the shoestring situation is handled, then the child looks down only to discover what mom and dad saw from the beginning: she used all that time and energy to tie both shoes to the wrong feet.
Mom and dad come to the rescue, doing in seconds what took the toddler 5 min to accomplish and it is at that very moment the child gains confidence in the ones who saved her.
The unbelieving will have their chance to discover their need for God. He can be their king today, or savior tomorrow.
"It is not what I think; it is not what some greater man may think; it is not what may be the consensus of all the enlightened minds of the period; the decision lies with what the Lord has spoken." Charles Spurgeon.
