Scriptural foundation: Matthew 5:13
Two people can perform the same task but the one that operates in the spirit of love will be effective. God is love. He is the greatest example of what it means to love and how to show it. Since we represent him, we have to take on his countenance. We are made in his image, so when people look at us they should see him instead of our nice cars, big houses, and shiny shoes. Matthew 5:13 says, “Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.”
We live in a time where people love only themselves. Their hearts have gone cold and need to be warmed. Where is the world supposed to find love? In the church! We, who are believers, make up the body of Christ, which is the church. We are to lend ourselves to God so that he can use us to establish his will on Earth. Christ himself is the head and the head has instructed us to be salt in a tasteless world. Unfortunately, in our attempt to be the salt, some of us have become salty.
Instead of loving our neighbors as ourselves, we don’t, for many reasons that we even believe to be justifiable. The tip of the iceberg is that many Christians don’t even care about what God's word has to say. This is the same mentality of certain ones whom Jesus talked about. He said their hearts will wax cold (Matt 24:12). What happens is we become salty, as we say in our culture, when people do harm to us and don’t care to apologize. At the end of the day, knowing that what they said or did should not make you revoke your vow to love everyone just like Jesus said. Jesus told us to show love regardless. Ignorantly, we still lash back out in an effort to seek our own revenge, with our salty selves. Yes, we must be flavorful, but remember that over salting a dish can ruin an entire meal.
Prayer: God, you have mandated that we go out into all the world and tell them about your love. You have spoken to us about the impending problems and barriers we will face with people who are salt less. In our effort to try and please you, don’t let us lose our savor. In Jesus name, it is finished!
